Bischofita, un mineral natural de los mares antiguos, activador de pureza y frescura, verdadero «balneolavado».
La bischofita es un mineral de cloruro de magnesio hidratado con fórmula MgCl2·6H2O.
Pertenece a los haluros y es un concentrado de sal marina. Contiene muchos macro y microelementos vitales para la salud humana, en concentraciones mucho más altas que las que se pueden encontrar en la sal del mar o del océano. El principal compuesto de bischofita es el cloruro de magnesio (hasta 350 g/L), además, contiene alrededor de otros 70 elementos como impurezas, incluidos potasio, sodio, bromo, boro, calcio, silicio, molibdeno, plata, zinc, hierro y cobre.
MgCl2·6H2O
Bischofite recibe su nombre en honor al geólogo alemán Gustav Bischof (1792–1870). Su descubrimiento (1877) se atribuye a Carl Christian Ochsenius.
En su localidad típico, la bischofita es una evaporita formada en un fondo marino antiguo, que se depositó hace más de 200 millones de años, durante el Período Pérmico.
En 1930-1950, se descubrieron grandes depósitos de bischofita cerca del río Volga en Rusia. El mineral se extrae disolviendo un estrato mineral seco subterráneo con agua artesiana. La salmuera resultante se bombea.
